Portuguese Sweet Bread Recipe
You will need
1 package of Sweet Bread & Malasada Mix
1/2 cup warm whole milk (110ºF)
1/2 cup warm water (110ºF)
1 package active dry yeast (Included in the mix)
1 teaspoon sugar to proof yeast
Bread Machine Dough Method
Place all of yeast from package, sugar, and warm water into bread machine. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Then mix in warm milk to bread machine. Now add package of bread mix. Set bread machine to “dough cycle” Start machine.
Hand Dough or Kitchenaid Mixer Method
Place all of the yeast from the package, sugar, and warm water into a large bowl. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Then mix warm milk into a bowl. Add a package of bread mix. Mix with a spoon until ingredients are well incorporated. Knead for 30 minutes. Let the dough rest covered in a warm place for one
Second Rise When dough is finished with machine or hand method, punch down the dough to release air and shape into round or long loaf. Spray pan of choice with cooking oil. Place dough into round or loaf pan. Flip dough over to coat both sides with oil. Let it rise again for 2 hours in a warm place. Bake at 325°F in pre-heated oven for 30 minutes.
Malasadas - Directions:
Place all of the yeast from the package, sugar, and warm water into a large bowl. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Then mix warm milk into a bowl. Add a package of bread mix. Mix with a spoon until ingredients are well incorporated. Knead for 15 minutes on a floured board. Let the dough rest covered in a warm place for 1 hour. Punch down the dough to release air. Cut the dough into 2-oz pieces on a floured board. Form into balls. Place balls onto an oiled sheet pan 2–3 inches apart and let it rise again until doubled in size. When ready stretch the dough a little and deep fry in hot oil (300°F) until golden brown.
